Web Site Tips

Basic tips on making a good looking site, and acceptable for Anime Navigator:

Recommended Programs

Building your web site

Publishing your site

Recommended Programs
Making a web site isn't too difficult. Making a really pleasant one takes a little bit more work. The type of program you use to make your site also, to some extend, determines the overall outcome of your future site. If you are new to creating a web site, we recommend a simple program that does not deal with html coding.

Captain Nunin: Ahh yes, I reemembe' me first page. I made it'n Microsoft Publisher®. Why yes, it was quite simple. I made tons' of good web sites. Thought I never got to publish many thanks to me laziness. >_>'

CDR Dark Knight: -_-' yea...

Microsoft Publisher® is one of the most simplest and user-friendly programs out there. However, it is not completely dedicated to the construction of a web page like Microsoft Front Page® is.

Thought at first Microsoft Front Pag e® may look confusing, you can get the hang of it after a quick tour. Its not necessary to know much about html when using this program, but we do recommend a knowing the simple basics. With Front Page you can work on templates that the program has to offer. If you are looking for a more professional look, we suggest using a different program. Front Page is a program designed to work on nothing but a web site but it does not give you the professional look. It does not provide much freedom on working with side menus other then the one they give to you.

Macromedia® Dreamweaver® is a very good program that is highly recommended.

You can do a whole lot with this program, CSS, Java Script, DHTML, HTML-- heck, practically anything. You do have to have a wide knowledge of dealing with these codes, especially HTML, but Dreamweaver provides hands-on-layout as well, making it more easier for everybody!

Building your site

Now, many people have different types of taste, so we can't simply tell you how you should design your web site. Instead we can give you simple tips that you may find useful:

1) Tables!! No, not the ones you eat on. Using tables will make your web page more organize and look much better then not using them.

2) Colors! Now, probably you think that a bright hot pink with a bright neon yellow background would win you an award for best layout. In reality, most users would need sunglasses before they enter your site.

Hey Welcome to my Site!
HoW ArEs Ya DoInGu?

First off, the background is just too bright. Because of this, your bright neon colors don't show to well. The only way we could have read this was if we higlighted it.

Hey Welcome to my Site!
HoW ArE Ya DoInGu?

Certain colors look good with certain color backgrounds.

Bright Font + Bright Background= Color Blindness :)

Like always, there are always exceptions so don't take or word to heart. We recommend that you use colors that are less um... radiant? They say white matches with everything, but we've found that not to be quite true. These are font colors that do not go well with a white background because you can't really read the wording.

This green color- oww x_x no no!
This kind of blue tone- u_u can't watch
Not in this background- if you want to use yellow, use a darker color, but never use it in a white or light background.
Common Pink/Purple- this is quite a common color, but it doesn't go well on all background colors. It is also not very pleasing to look at. If you want to use this color, try using it in dark backgrounds, it looks much better then in light backgrounds.

Commander Dark Knight: X_x whoa! I'm blind!

I'm sure you get the point by now, these colors include background colors. Don't use black font colors with dark background colors, nor white font colors with light font colors. But if you enjoy it, then what do we know! ^^'

Welcome to my site!

or

Welcome to my Site!

3) Quality pictures! A picture is worth a thousand words. In this case it shows the visitor the quality of the site. Some pictures have visible pixels that make it look dusty. Re-sizing images may sometimes cause this problem. Try using a program that re-sizes images without showing its pixels, like Adobe Photoshop®. Or just try to find a nicer quality one on-line.

Don't let this happen to you!! AHHH!

Publishing your web site

In the www (World Wide Web), there are so many web hosters, that we've lost count. But only a few are very reliable. You may or may not agree, but Yahoo! (Geocities) is quite reliable in web hosting. They may not accept direct linking or mp3s, but its very simple to log in and upload your site. Their ads aren't quite as annoying as other hosters.

Yahoo! only provides 6mb of space, and I'm sure you wish more then that since you may have mp3s, pictures or other files that required a lot of space, in that situation, Fortunecity can be quite useful.

Last time I check, Fortunecity provided around 100mb of space, but its possible that they changed it to 25mb. Fortunecity does provide alot of space, but in some cases, it can become quite unreliable.

Captain Nunin: Arggh!! That's for sure, it has loose'n most of me passwords of mos' t'of me accounts.

Captain EkO: ^^'

But they do accept direct linking and mp3s, which means you can use it mostly to store your pictures, mp3s, winamp skins, backgrounds, desktop themes, etc. and direct link them from other sites.

Are there other reliable web hosters out there? Sure. I just mentioned only a few of the most popular ones. As long as you think that they look reliable and organized, then go for it. Gan'bate! Good luck! And please remeber, these are only the Umi Company's opinions and may not reflect yours. If you are happy with the site you've build, no matter the visuals, then keep your happy site :)
